COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapins' women's basketball team (8-2) packs its bags and heads westward for a two-game swing in California. Maryland has not played in California since going head-to-head with UCLA on Dec. 30, 1995 at Pauley Pavilion. The Terps dropped an 82-70 decision to the Bruins as part of the PAC-10/ACC Challenge. This time, Maryland will meet Santa Clara (7-2) on Dec. 27 and San Francisco (4-4) on Dec. 28. Both meetings are the first ever between for the Terps and their respective opponents.

The Broncos enter their game with the Terps with a 7-2 mark and are on a four-game win streak. Santa Clara has notched wins over Pacific (11/18, 69-50), Providence (11/25, 65-49), at San Jose State (11/29, 85-68), at California (12/10, 77-73), at Cal Poly (12/13, 85-61), at Sacramento State (12/15, 88-31) and at Northern Illinois (12/18, 62-50). The Broncos have lost two games, a 85-57 decision at Stanford on Nov. 20 and a 62-54 loss to Oregon on Dec. 2. Annie Garrison leads Santa Clara in scoring with 12.6 ppg. Garrison also pulls down a team-high nine rebounds per contest, and averages over two blocks a game. Jennifer Glysson also adds 10.5 ppg, while Becki Ashbaugh dishes 5.5 apg for the Broncos offense.


San Francisco in 2000
San Fransisco's 71-63 defeat of Cal Poly on Dec. 21 brought the Dons to an even 4-4 prior to their Dec. 28 meeting with Maryland. The win was No. 200 for San Francisco head coach Mary Hile-Nepfel. The Dons have picked up wins against UC Riverside (11/19, 105-51), Cal State Fullerton (11/25, 96-56), Massachusetts (12/1, 80-37), and Cal Poly (12/21, 71-63). San Francisco's four losses have come at Stanford (11/28, 92-66), California (12/8, 61-53), Montana State (12/10, 60-55), at Iowa State (12/17, 87-60). The Dons' leading scorer is Kim Whisler, who is netting 13.1 ppg. Lindsay Huff also contributes 10.3 ppg.

Next Home Jan 2 vs. Clemson
Don't miss the Terps' next home engagement, when Maryland hosts Clemson in its ACC home opener on Jan. 2. The Terps are looking for their first conference victory after starting the conference season with a loss at North Carolina. The Tigers will be fighting for the ACC road win, and their second ACC win overall after knocking off then-No. 3 Duke at home by a score of 93-75 on Dec. 8.

Last Time: 80-61 Win Over Lafayette
COLLEGE PARK, MD.- Sophomore forward Renneika Razor poured in a career-high 25 points to lead Maryland's women's basketball team (8-2) to an 80-61 victory over Lafayette (4-6) Friday at Cole Field House. Junior guard Marché Strickland also scored 19 for the Terps in the victory. Maryland came out sluggish in the first half, but gradually built a lead that would total 17 points by the end of the half. Razor paced the half with her 7-7 performance from the floor to take the Terps into the lockerroom with a 42-25 advantage.

Lafayette whittled away the Terps' lead in the second half, keyed by a 14-point half by Leopard guard Jen Bayer. The Leopards would get no closer than eight points, thanks to a good shooting by the Terps and solid defense, which caused 26 Lafayette turnovers during the game. Strickland netted 10 in the second half, as did Razor, with freshman center Crystal Washington scoring a career-high 10 points. Sophomore guard Terri Daniels had another excellent outing, tallying nine assists to lead Maryland in that category.

Strick-ly Business
Junior guard Marché Strickland (Kingston, Mass.) is at the top of Maryland's scoring charts, averaging a potent 14.9 ppg. Strickland finished the Delaware game a hero on Nov. 26, sinking the Terps' winning three-point shot with 12.5 seconds remaining and earning Terrapin Classic MVP honors. Strickland is third in the conference in three-pointers made per game (1.60) and in the top 10 in scoring (14.9 ppg).
